We are a close-knit team of passionate locals. United by a bold vision to elevate our community through inspiring and facilitating generosity.
Operational
Richard Spackman
Chief Executive
Richard has had an interesting journey to become the leader of the Aoraki Foundation. Having relocated from Christchurch in 2012 to run a business, he and his family quickly fell in love with the region. In 2020 Richard put his career on hold to travel NZ and the Cook Islands with his wife Sharon and children Sienna & Harry. It was during this adventure that they decided when they return to South Canterbury, they wanted to put community first with all that they do.
Richard’s talents are a perfect fit for the Foundation. He is a natural connector with people and truly believes in the power of giving.
Richard balances this role with coaching local businesses to grow, and spending time with his family. An avid sports fan, he can be found at rugby and cricket grounds around the country or cycling the rural roads behind Timaru.
Kirsty Burnett
Gift & Community Advisor
It's no secret, Kirsty loves South Canterbury!
Kirsty moved to Timaru 21 years ago with daughter Lauryn, to take up a role in radio broadcasting at the iconic Port Fm. After 10 years as a local radio personality, Kirsty completed a diploma in business at Aoraki Polytechnic before working as an event manager for Special Events Aoraki, Events & Membership Manager for The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and most recently, Marketing/fundraising Co-Ordinator for Presbyterian Support South Canterbury.
Kirsty is entrenched in our community performing in two local bands and Drama League Shows as well as emceeing and guest speaking at many local events. Kirsty married Timaru born and bred electrician, Craig, at Sopheze on the Bay in 2011. A true lover of all things South Canterbury, Kirsty is excited to bring her skills and enthusiasm to the Aoraki Foundation.
Nicola Buckingham
Administrator
Nicola, her husband Roger and two children Lachlan and Samuel, relocated to the South Canterbury region in 2019 to be closer to their families.
Nicola has a strong background in financial accounting, payroll and office administration. She is excited to be part of an organisation which is all about giving back to the community, and feels fortunate to witness and help administer the financial “smart giving” model applied by the Foundation.
Outside of work Nicola enjoys following her children around watching the various sports they participate in. You will often find her on the cricket sidelines scoring a game throughout the summer weekends. Otherwise she will probably be walking the dog or immersed in a good book.
Board
Greg Anderson
Chairperson & Mackenzie District Representative
-
Born and bred in Fairlie, Greg is married to Sandy with three adult children Lee, Tom and Abby, and two grandchildren Maie and Floss. Greg has 35 years of farming experience in the South Canterbury region. He has just recently sold their 1300 ha sheep and beef farming operation and purchased a smaller 25 ha property. This downsizing came about as Greg and Sandy wanted a change in direction in life to spend more time with family, and pursue their interests outside of farming. This has also allowed Greg to be more involved in community work, which is one of the reasons he has become involved in the Aoraki Foundation.
Greg has been involved in many community organisations over the years including being the South Canterbury Federated Farmers Provincial President, past Chairman of Farming Beyond 2000, the Founding Trustee of the Mackenzie Vehicle Trust, President of the Mackenzie Collie Club, former Beef and Lamb Monitor Farmer and Master of the Mackenzie Masonic Lodge.
Greg enjoys his sports and is a Life Member of the Mackenzie Rugby Club, the Assistant Club Captain of the Fairlie Golf Club and a member of the Mackenzie Curling Club. He also served six years on the Mackenzie College Board of Trustees, three of which were as Chairperson.
Greg is passionate about the South Canterbury region and this mainly stems from the opportunities it has given him and of course the great people that reside here.
Tony Alden
Deputy Chairperson & Waimate District Representative
-
Tony is a retired Chartered Accountant. He brings extensive governance experience gained from a career in Management. He has a long history in voluntary community involvement assisting many individuals by way of Business Mentoring, and numerous community groups to achieve their good work in the wider North Otago and South Canterbury communities.
He is married, with two adult children, and currently has a lifestyle property in Waimate. He was closely involved in the formation of the Foundation many years ago, and acknowledges the foresight of the proponents, and the good work of past Trustees in building the Foundation to where it is today.
In accepting the opportunity to join the Board, such decision was made on the basis that South Canterbury has, and will continue to have, many organisations who do extremely good work, to which the Aoraki Foundation can be the community conduit to assist them.
Jenny Carter-Bolitho
Timaru District
Representative
-
Jenny is a Partner at Timpany Walton Lawyers specialising in Subdivisions, Trust, Property and Commercial Law. Originally from Te Awamutu, Jenny married a South Cantabrian in 2003 and after time spent living in various locations around New Zealand and overseas she and her husband chose to move permanently to Timaru to raise their family.
She has previously held a number of community governance roles as a Trustee of the Wanakafest Trust, Deputy Chair of the Timaru Parents Centre, Chair of the Craighead Kindergarten Board of Governors and trustee on the Pleasant Point Primary School Board of Trustees. Presently Jenny is on the Board of Trustees for Mountainview High School, a member of the Board for the South Canterbury Hospice and on the Advisory Committee for the Aoraki Women’s Fund, alongside her role as a Trustee for the Aoraki Foundation.
Jenny admires and supports the Foundation’s “smart giving” endowment fund model as she believes it provides donors with a simple way of ensuring that their donation, no matter how big or small, will have a long term impact in helping charitable causes in the Aoraki region.
Jo Goodhew
Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Representative
-
I am looking forward to working with the Aoraki Foundation. I have long been a supporter of Community Foundations and have for many years served the South Canterbury community. I am married to Mark and we have three adult daughters. My early work life was as a registered nurse with 20 years in hospital and general practice settings. This was followed by a community-based role in crime prevention and community strengthening.
In 2005 I was elected to Parliament as the first Aoraki MP, then with boundary changes Rangitata MP. I became a Minister in the Key government in 2011, a role I held until the end of 2016. I left Parliament at the 2017 election to pursue further roles in my community.
Since leaving Parliament I have held a number of governance roles, which include Presbyterian Support South Canterbury Deputy Chair (2017-current), Hospice South Canterbury (2017-current), South Canterbury DHB (2020-current), Alzheimers South Canterbury (2021-current) and Retirement Villages Association Executive Committee (Jan 2022-current).
I am currently an independent contractor doing business development and support of the rural sector through the Rural Support Trust, and spent 2 ½ years working with farmers caught up in the Mycoplasma bovis outbreak. I am also an independent marriage and civil union celebrant and in addition, officiate at funerals.
Georgina Hamilton
-
Georgina is a Timaru Girls’ High School old girl. She returned to her home town of Timaru from Auckland with her husband James and daughters Olivia and Lucy in 2011, to be closer to whānau and to give her children the same opportunities she had whilst growing up in the district.
Georgina is the Managing Partner of Timaru law firm Gresson Dorman & Co and leads the firm’s environmental law practice. Since relocating to South Canterbury, she has held various governance roles in local charitable organisations.
Georgina was delighted to accept a Trustee role with the Aoraki Foundation as this aligns closely with her aspirations to support charitable initiatives and build stronger communities within South Canterbury.
John Gregan
-
John is still married to his first wife Cara and has three grown up children. He dairy farms at the base of the Hunter Hills and has been involved in Federated Farmers and Fonterra in various governance roles and completed the Fonterra governance program.

Dale Walden
-

Over the years Dale has served as a member of sporting, cultural and school committees. He is currently the Chairman of a large Charitable Trust and is Chairman of the South Canterbury MRI Trust.
Dale lives in Timaru where he enjoys a wide range of interests including sports, arts and family. He and his wife Rosemary have two children and four grandchildren.
Dale is looking forward to helping to advance the Aoraki Foundation, and give so generously back to our community.
Claire Barlow
-
Claire and her husband Stephen returned to Fairlie in December 2021, after a five year stint working in the capital. With most of their children and grandchildren residing in South Canterbury they felt it was time to return ‘home’ and spend more time among family and friends.
Claire has a strong background in governance, having been the Mayor of the Mackenzie District from 2010 to 2016, as well as a representative on the Mackenzie Country Trust, the Upper Waitaki Zone Committee, and a member of the local school PTA, Soccer Club and Theatre Group.
Much of the last five years Claire spent working as an Executive Support and Research Assistant to a Member of Parliament as well as taking on some short-term contracts with various public entities.
She is currently the sole director of a ‘technology solutions’ start-up which she co-owns with her husband, Stephen. When not working for the business she enjoys reading, playing piano and going for walks.
Claire is thrilled to be back in South Canterbury and relishes the opportunity to be involved in giving back to the community that has provided so much for her and her family over the last 25 years.
