The late Allan & Jean Hubbard left behind a legacy for our young people
In 2004 Allan Hubbard and his wife Margaret (better known as Jean) established a scholarship trust to further the education of students attending South Canterbury secondary schools. These scholarships would be for study at a university or other tertiary education institution. Given Allan’s background in accounting and finance, one would be forgiven for thinking that this scholarship would favour these subjects. However, Allan and Margaret wanted this scholarship to be open to all educational pursuits including trades. The only condition they placed was these scholarships should go to students that needed them such as those facing financial hardship or social challenges.
Local accounting firm HC Partners had faithfully administered these scholarships for almost two decades when the Aoraki Foundation presented to the firm. It was obvious to those involved that transferring the scholarship fund to the Aoraki Foundation was a way to ensure the longevity of the scholarships. HC Partners spokesman Craig Copland was delighted to vest the fund with the Foundation, “The Aoraki Foundation has the expertise and the history, and it gives the fund certainty and continuity going forward. The higher profile of the Foundation increases the chances of people contributing to the fund, and ensures local high schools were aware of its existence.”
