A fund not to forget

Alzheimers South Canterbury supports those living with Memory Loss or Dementia in our local community.  They provide navigational support to help clients and whanau navigate their own individual dementia journey.  With support and advice those living with Dementia can be empowered to live well and remain active and engaged members of our community. Alzheimers South Canterbury are here to walk your journey, with you, at your pace.

As South Canterbury has one of the highest over 65yrs and 85yrs populations in New Zealand, this means the numbers of those living in our community with dementia will also be higher.   Dementia is a rapidly growing health crisis for both our health system and our communities and research shows that with good support and navigation (which are the core services Alzheimers South Canterbury provide) people and their families can have a more positive experience in their dementia journey.  This can also prevent hospitalisation and early entry to residential care.

As only 4% of Alzheimers operational funding is provided from Te Whatu Ora / Health NZ, they rely on community grants and fundraising for the remaining 96% of their day-to-day operations. The Alzheimers South Canterbury Fund has been established to help bridge this funding gap and maintain this much needed service in our community.

The trustees wanted a way to encourage the community to grow this fund to support the future of the service.

In June 2024 the St. Vianney’s Timaru Trust pledged $50,000 in a matched giving campaign. St. Vianney’s will match your gift $1 for $1 up to a total value of $50,000.
