When disaster strikes, we will be here
South Canterbury is a special place with a vast geographical landscape. Sweeping coastlines, braided rivers, and towering alpine peaks make South Canterbury an environment that has few equals.
These wonderful natural landscapes also carry risks. There is a constant potential for a serious earthquake, tsunami, fire or flood. If a natural hazard strikes, our region will need help, and in those times it is financial support that means the most. Any donations to this fund will be used to prepare our region for future emergencies or to support our community in a time of need.
The South Canterbury Emergency Response Fund has been established in partnership with the Timaru District Council to support the people and places that matter the most.
We have chosen the Aoraki Foundation to lead our emergency relief fundraising so the Council can get on with the task at hand of restoring infrastructure, and core services in an emergency.
- Nigel Bowen, Timaru District Council
Can I get a grant?
The South Canterbury Emergency Response Fund does not make individual grants to the public. This fund works with our Councils partners to prepare the South Canterbury community for a future emergency.
In the event of an emergency a dedicated distribution committee will allocate funding where it is needed most. An application process will be made available via this website when it is appropriate.
