Crazy, Stupid, Goodness

We were blown away when the Daze of Thunder team contacted us to say they had chosen us as their nominated charity for the Mongol Rally 2024.

Three kiwis and an aussie are competing in the greatest motoring adventure on the planet. This is 10,000 miles of chaos across mountain, deserts and steppe on roads ranging from bad to not-a-road in a tiny 1200cc car you bought from a scrapyard.

There’s no backup. There’s no set route. There’s no guarantee they will make it to the end. It’s just them, their rolling turd and a planet-earth sized bucket of adventure.

The rally starts in Prague on the 13th July and next day teams start driving to Eastern Kazakhstan.

Knowing where you’re going is boring. The Mongol Rally follows our ‘unroute’ ethos; you go where you please. Adventure doesn’t happen following a nob with a flag, It happens when you’re lost.

Meet the Team

Daze of Thunder - Lou, Lisa, Hamish, & Jason

In March the team did a road trip to pick up their 1.2L 2006 wheelchair modified Renault Kangoo in London and drove her to a mechanic in Prague. The mechanic has given her a bit of a lift and bigger wheels to handle the journey. He would love to do more but he is expensive and has exhausted our “modification” funds.

To keep up to date with the journey check in on their official page.

What are you donating to

The Aoraki Foundation is a local community foundation in South Canterbury. Not only is South Canterbury the greatest region on the planet (yet to be formally recognised), but it is also where Hamish, Lisa, and Jason grew up. The money gifted from Daze of Thunder will be split across two of the Aoraki Foundation’s funds - Air Rescue Fund (Westpac Helicopter), and the General Impact Fund. The General Impact fund supports a wide range of local charities & projects every year.

The best thing about donating to a community foundation is your gift is invested in perpetuity and it is just the income of the gift that is distributed each year. It is a legacy way to give, where each donation builds on top of the last donation, growing good for the future.
